Wonderware InTouch® Software Solution
A Wonderware Client Access License (WW CAL) is required for all nodes accessing data from a Wonderware Database such as Historian Server. WW CALs are included in some products and can be purchased separately. One WW CAL is required for each node that connects to the database via a plant network, Internet, or Intranet. WW CAL includes a Microsoft SQL Server CAL except where noted. The WW CAL is needed for any node whether the client software is from Wonderware, Microsoft, or any third party.
- Refer to the System Platform tab for InTouch for System Platform client licenses for ArchestrA System Platform. Refer to the ‘Dev Studio-Toolkits’ Tab for Wonderware Development Studio licenses which include InTouch WindowMaker and IDE development environments and for Wonderware Advanced Development Studio licenses which also include MES licensing and Toolkits. Refer to ‘Consignments’ Tab for DevStudio and Advanced DevStudio Consignments.
- Each InTouch Runtime license on this Tab enables InTouch v10.0 and later versions, but does not enable versions 9.5 or earlier. This backward version compatibility is provided for convenience. For each InTouch Runtime ordered, two license files will be delivered on the license mini CD: wwsuite.lic (enables v10.0 and v10.1 and older DAServers released prior to 2012) and archestra.lic (enables v10.5 and later, and newer DAServers released in 2012 and later). For each InTouch license ordered, the customer is licensed to use only one instance and one version of InTouch.
Remote Desktop Services/Terminal Services Edition (RDS/TSE)
The number of instances of InTouch running in a terminal server sessions are license enforced and limited to the number licensed within the ‘T’ soft license file which is installed on the terminal server. InTouch RDS/TSE is sold and licensed on a ‘per device/per session’ basis or on a concurrent basis. Each session on a device requires a session license. A device (client) may be a thin client, a computer running a remote desktop client connection to the server, or running on the terminal server session itself. If a device supports multiple client session connections, then each session, which will have an InTouch instance running, will require one client/session license. Concurrent licensing enables a certain maximum number of instances of InTouch, each running in a session, at any one time whether for a thin client, remote desktop connection, or on the terminal server session. Concurrent licensing provides greater flexibility for casual users. A device connecting to a single session with a single InTouch application designed to display over two or more monitors (e.g. a video wall), requires only one session client license.
- When ordering InTouch RDS/TSE: (xx-xxxxT or xx-xxxxTP)
Soft license files are represented by the part numbers with the suffix ‘T’. The ‘T’ soft license file is installed on the Terminal Server and enforces the number of InTouch instances in terminal server sessions. Paper licenses are represented by part numbers with the suffix ‘TP’. Each ‘T’ license includes one Application Server Platform license and each ‘T’ license includes one Application Server Session license. Purchase one ‘T’ part number and additional ‘TP’ part numbers for the total number of InTouch instances in terminal server sessions. An instance on the terminal server session counts as a session.
- For Remote Desktop (RDS) / Terminal Server (TSE) sessions
Microsoft RDS/TS CALs must be purchased separately (from Microsoft) for every display device or user that may utilize a session in the remote desktop/terminal server, whether that session is licensed per device, per user or concurrent.
- When ordering additional InTouch RDS/TSE clients for an existing licensed TServer (assuming there is an existing TServer at the site with an existing ‘T’ license file).
Order the additional client InTouch RDS/TSE license(s) (TP). Supply the serial number of the associated existing InTouch RDS/TSE ‘T’ license on the existing TServer at the site. Wonderware will ship the new InTouch RDS/TSE client paper ‘T’ licenses and a regenerated InTouch RDS/TSE ‘T’ license with an incremented TSession count to account for the additional client node(s). This new InTouch RDS/TSE ‘T’ license file replaces the existing one.
- ‘T’ license files are delivered on a license CD.
‘T’ paper licenses are listed on the paper License Certificate accompanying the order. The total number of InTouch instances (‘T’ plus ‘TP’) will be enforced by the ‘T’ soft license file. For InTouch Runtimes, the highest tag count license must be the ‘T’ soft license file and include I/O if needed. Also, if the ‘T’ license file is Read-only, all InTouch instances on the terminal server will be Read-only. A Hardware key can be ordered for the ‘T’ part numbers. Use double suffix on part number, e.g. xx-xxxxTU or xx-xxxxTFU.

Wonderware® InTouch® Machine Edition enables Panel Builders, OEMs, VARs, System Builders, and End Users to quickly create intuitive, secure, and highly maintainable machine level HMI applications on a variety of low level devices such as Small panel PCs, Smartphones, and HMI Panels using embedded operating systems Windows Embedded Standard and Windows Embedded Compact; as well as Linux and VxWorks with the new InTouch Machine Edition IoTView runtime edition. InTouch Machine Edition includes the full use of 250+ protocols, as well as native OPC DA/UA interface.
The new ITME IoTView introduces a platform independent HMI custom-built to embrace new technology for connectivity specifically for devices running on Linux and VxWorks operating systems.
Licensing of ITME
ITME is licensed using an Activation Code and a Hardware Identifier. The Activation Code is downloaded from the ITME License Activation Website. The Hardware Identifier is generated when installing the ITME software and locks the license activation to the device or USB Key. ITME License Activation Website: www.wonderware.com/ITME/LicenseActivation.
License enforcement types :
- 1. Development licenses will be provided in a portable USB key. This allows easy license management between development devices.
- 2. Runtime licenses and Consignment licenses will be provided as a softkey Authorization Code that is locked to the device using the Hardware Identifier.
A separately purchased InTouch Machine Edition Studio (Development) is required to develop ITME applications. The Wonderware® Development Studio and Advanced Development Studio licenses do not develop or enable InTouch Machine Edition applications. ITME Studio Consignment is available at no additional charge to SIs and OEMS who consign a Wonderware DevStudio or AdvDevStudio Consignment. See the Consignment Tab for details.
- Each InTouch Machine Edition license licenses use of one version of InTouch Machine Edition.
